Vamshi Paidipally's upcoming Tamil-language action drama Varisu, which stars the likes of Hari and Ashishor Solomon, is scheduled to release in 2023. It is produced by Sirish and Dil Raju under the Sri Venkateswara Cinema and PVP Cinema banner. The film's music is by Thaman S, and the cinematography is handled by Praveen K. L.

It was first announced in September 2021 as the tentatively titled Thalapathy 66, which is the 66th film in which Vijay has played a leading role. The film started filming in April 2022 and wrapped up in December that year. Most of the filming took place in Hyderabad and Chennai.

The film, which was released in various countries on January 11, 2023, was met with mixed reviews from the critics. It has earned a total of 130 Cr., making it the highest grossing Indian film of that year.

The film revolves around the story of the youngest son of a prominent businessman, who was disowned after he refused to join his family's business. After seven years, he is diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer. He is only a few months away from dying, and he decides to make one of his elder sons, Jai, the company's chairman before he passes away.

To celebrate his 65th birthday, which is coming up soon, Rajendran has planned a grand party. He invited his son, who is also named Vijay, but he accidentally lands in his house in disarray upon reaching.

Jai is having an affair with another woman, and he is neglecting his family, especially his daughter Ria. He also owes a financier, who is known as Mukesh, a huge amount of money. When he can't pay the money, he offers to share the secrets of his company with Jayaprakash, who is the rival of his father.

When he meets Aarthi's sister, Aarthi, who has been eyeing him since childhood, he eventually falls for her. The two eventually fall for each other. During the birthday party of Rajendran, which is being held at his home, JP and Mukesh reveal that both Jay and Ajay are duplicitying the entire family. This has resulted in Aarthi filing for a divorce, as well as the loss of a lucrative business deal that she had previously negotiated with JP.

After realizing that he could no longer rely on his elder sons, who are the company's chairman and managing director, he reaches out to his son, who initially refused, but eventually agreed to take over the business.

After learning about his father's plan to disown his son, Jay and Ajay leave the house. They then join hands with the other two sons, who are known as JP and Mukesh, to try and get rid of him as the chairman. However, despite their efforts, he still manages to successfully carry out his duties.

Jai and Vijay persuade Ajay to stop selling the company's shares to JP, and make him realize his mistakes. After the entire family is united, they enjoy a hearty meal together. When the patriarch passes away, the three brothers carry out his funeral in Varanasi.
